Organic Nicaragua Los Pinos

Los Pinos is a 24 hectare farm that was acquired by the Corrales family in 1983. It is now run by Byron (3rd generation famer), with the weekend help of his grown children, Byron Jr. and Sara, who have weekday jobs in the city.

In 1983, their new neighbours gifted them Maracaturra variety seeds that Byron's grandfather sowed and dedicated to it’s growth. They initially worked with biodynamic methods with a goal for organic farming, and once the farm was prepared they applied and received Organic Certification 30 years ago. They were Certified Bird Friendly® in 2011 as they are diversified with fruit trees and shade trees that are a habitat for birds. The Corrales family is proud of their biodynamic practices and invite local university students to come and learn from their organic practices. They have a wet mill within their facilities and use the dry mill at Solidaridad Cooperative to process the coffee.
